| Abstract | Define-se evento úmido ou seco na Região Sul do Brasil, como aqueles períodos com, no mínimo, 2 pentadas consecutivas com valor superior ao 80 percentil ou inferior ao 20 percentil da série, respectivamente. A série de precipitação é montada a partir da classificação de regiões homogêneas de precipitação. Analisa-se as características médias observadas na atmosfera durante a ocorrência de dois episódios extremos. Os padrões apresentam sinal quase oposto em todas as variáveis analisadas, sendo que o comportamento da distribuição de umidade nos baixos níveis e a persistência de anomalias de altura geopotencial em altos níveis parecem ser as mais importantes. Persistent wet and dry events over the southern of Brazil are examined from 1979 to 2002, using the National Centers for Environmental Prediction-National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP-NCAR) reanalysis and National Waters Agency (ANA) database. Using a cluster analysis, five regions with similar regimes of precipitation are obtained. One of these regions is used as a sample to select the events. 69 wet and 57 dry events are obtained this way. Two cases studies are made to compare the patterns of circulation during the occurrence of these types of situation. |
